PERMAS-RA combines the state-of-the-art general
purpose Finite Element system PERMAS
by INTES GmbH, Stuttgart, with COMREL by RCP GmbH, Munich, for probabilistic
structural analysis. Some highlights on its features:
- Time-invariant and time-variant reliability analysis
by FORM/SORM, Adaptive Sampling and Monte Carlo Sampling Both predefined and user defined failure functions Multiple failure functions for system reliability analysis Dynamic analysis
- Non-linear analysis
The development was initiated and sponsored by the Forschungszentrum
Jülich GmbH (KFA).
ASRA-HPC The ASRA-HPC project, "Advanced Structural Reliability
Analysis on High Performance Computers", is a shared cost action under the EC-ESPRIT
IV/HPCN Simulation and Design (Project #28159). The aim of the project is to
develop an integrated system for the optimum design of structures under reliability
constraints. It started from the existing PERMAS-RA in October 1998. The scheduled
end is October 2001. Some highlights on development within this project:
- All definitions and settings supported by a Graphical
User Interface (GUI)Newest version of COMREL integrated with newest version
of PERMAS Improved efficiency of the algorithms for reliability
analysis in COMREL, especially in the time-variant caseMany enhancements in PERMAS regarding HPC
- New module COSTREL for optimization under reliability
constraints or constrained
reliability optimization integrated with PERMAS
- Interface of reliability and optimization algorithms
to PERMAS based on Response Surface Method (RSM) for the case of non-differentiable
failure- and constraint functions

ASRANet
In late 1999 an EPSRC Network named ASRANet, "Integration
of Structrural Reliability Analysis (SRA) with Advanced Structural Analysis
(ASA)" was founded in the UK co-ordinated by the University of Glasgow, Dept.
of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, CASSaR.
There are ongoing courses and workshops, a online discussion
group and many useful contacts. In Sept.2000 the above mentioned ASRA-HPC project
was presented at a workshop in London by RCP & INTES.
